RESUMEN

Se identifican las dos principales barreras que explicarían la falta de publicaciones científicas en Atención Primaria de Salud (APS) en América Latina. Una barrera es la escasa investigación en nuestro ámbito. La otra, es que muchos trabajos no son transformados en material elegible para su publicación por una revista científica. Un abordaje para la primera barrera es impulsar la figura del médico general/familiar investigador, e incrementar sus capacidades para desarrollar estudios a partir de su práctica clínica. Para incentivar la mayor producción científica en APS, se identifica tres estrategias accesibles a las publicaciones interesadas en la tarea. La primera es flexibilizar los estándares de publicación de artículos científicos. La segunda es ayudar a los investigadores de la APS a concretar sus manuscritos, incluso a partir de avances preliminares. La tercera es masificar la divulgación de dichos artículos.

ABSTRACT

It were identified two main barriers that explain the impoverished number of scientific publications in Primary Health Care (PHC) in Latin America. One barrier is the low number of research studies in our reality. Another barrier is the insufficient number of studies transformed in scientific publications eligible to be published. One approach to the first barrier is to revalorize the role of general practitioners/family doctors as researchers, and increase his/her abilities to develop studies about the clinical practice.  To work in this second barrier and to promote research publication, it was identified three points to contribute to publish more scientific articles related to PHC.  First point is to implant flexible criteria to publish scientific articles. Second point is to help to the PHC researchers to concretize their papers, yet since early stages of development. Third is to expand divulgation of these articles.
